Mike Davis es un pintor surrealista moderno, que actualmente vive y trabaja en San Francisco, California.
Poseedor de un polifacético conjunto de intereses, David comenzó a pintar en 1997, y atribuye mucha de su inspiración a haber visto a su madre realizar proyectos de artesanía durante su infancia, y sumergirse, él mismo, en la historia del arte a través de su carrera. Desde ayudar a su madre con actividades que iban desde el trabajo en madera, trabajo del cuero a mano y remodelar la casa familiar, hasta involucrarse con el arte antiguo y la pintura holandesa del Renacimiento Nórdico, Davis es un pintor autodidacta, que representa complejas pinturas de vida surrealista, impregnadas con símbolos de la mortalidad, la locura y la arrogancia, obsesionado con caprichosas composiciones.
Además de pintor, Mike Davis es músico y trabaja la madera. También es el propietario de una tienda de tatuajes de renombre internacional: Everlasting Tattoo.

«Estoy muy influenciado por los pintores alemanes, holandeses y flamencos del 1400 y 1600, pero también adoro a los surrealistas y los expresionistas alemanes. Estoy muy interesado en el arte e historia antiguos de Grecia, Roma y Egipto. Cuando era joven estaba muy metido en la obra de Roger Dean, Alan Aldridge, la revista Mad (¡definitivamente, mi biblia!) y Ed Roth.»

«Lo que más me gusta es mi primera y última sesión de cada pintura. Hay mucha electricidad en la primera sesión, cuando ves algo materializándose en el lienzo en blanco. La última sesión es la de la satisfacción del trabajo completo. Curiosamente me encanta empacar las cosas para los envíos; después de que el trabajo importante se terminó, es divertido hacer algo sin sentido.»

«Hay grandes diferencias entre tatuar y pintar... El tatuaje tiene límites muy estrictos; debes sumergirte en ello y cuando pones la aguja en la piel tienes el compromiso de seguir adelante. Cada marca debe ser deliberada. La pintura es libertad total; puedes hacer cambios, puedes pintar encima de algo si no te gusta lo que tienes.»

Mike Davis is a modern surrealist painter, who currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.
Possessing a multi-faceted set of interests, Davis began painting in 1997, and attributes much of his inspiration to watching his mother pursue craft projects during his childhood, and immersing himself in art history throughout his career. From helping his mother with activities ranging from woodworking, hand-tooling leather, and remodeling the family's home, to engaging with ancient art and Netherlandish painting from the Northern Renaissance, Davis is a self-taught painter, who continues to render complex paintings of surrealist life, embedded with symbols of mortality, folly, and hubris, fixated within whimsical compositions.
In addition to painting, Mike Davis is a musician and woodworker as well the owner of an internationally-renowned tattoo shop, Everlasting Tattoo.

«I am most influenced by German, Dutch and Flemish painters of the 1400′s-1600′s, but I also love the surrealists and german expressionists. I am very interested in ancient art/history-greek, roman, egyptian. When I was young lad I was really into the work of Roger Dean, Alan Aldridge, Mad Magazine (absolutely-my bible!) and Ed Roth.»

«There are major differences between tattooing and painting…. Tattooing has very strict boundaries you must stay within and when you put the needle to the skin you are committed and must follow through. Every mark must be very deliberate. Painting is total freedom, you can make changes, you can paint over something if you don’t like what you have.»
